Here's why
- I've been busy
- My wife has had the first of 2 operations
- Abergele Rotary events and being President
- Pulled a muscle
- Did I tell you I've been busy?
I've been busy
Here I am semi-retired, I should be fully retired, but I have a couple of contracts to see out this year and a promised commitment.
Cybersecurity is all about looking after the clients concerns real or otherwise and managing expectation. The first part is easy, the second part, the expectations is much, much harder.
The main reason expectations are hard to manage is relatively easy to explain: Money! There have been several big companies who have experienced data breaches this year, M&S, Co-Op and Harrods to start with, then there was Adidas and H&M as well.
Most of these, if we look at M&S, you would expect them to have spotted the issues earlier, but they appear to have been another company that did not employ User Behaviour Analysis (also known as User and Entity Behaviour Analysis or Network Traffic Analysis). Essentially, the software looks for activity on the network that does not match that of the systems users and flags it as a concern to be investigated.
Perhaps they did have the software and had been overwhelmed by alerts in the past and dialled it down or the Cyber team just didn't pick up the issue. No matter the reason, it is more likely to be a cost issue with Google Analytics costing £40,000 for Enterprise level full featured use and support (still cheaper than the breach).
Anyway, back to me, I've been finishing my last project, a commitment agreed at the start of 2025, but one that the client couldn't commit to until October 2025.
My wife has had the first of 2 operations
The Memsaab had the first of her operations for Carpal Tunnel, so her right hand has been operated on and that is her dominant hand, so everything from dressing her to cooking and cleaning has also fallen on my shoulders.
In about another 4 - 12 weeks, her left hand will be done and so the workload will continue for a while.
Abergele Rotary events and being President
As President, I have been busy at our Rotary Club and that isn't going to slow down until early next year. We held our annual In Care event which was incredible this year. We are having to build a new Christmas Float for our Santa Collections and we are about to start the build.
The float consists of a small trailer and two sheets of 8ft by 4ft plywood that needs to be cut using a template into a sleigh! The 2 sheets are then mounted on a small structure that includes legs and enable the whole thing to be dropped into the trailer. Simple...... Yeah right!
Pulled a muscle
Getting old sucks, I was happily wiping my arse when I pulled a muscle that gives me pain up my right side near my kidney and up my back. It comes to something when you can't even have a crap without injuring myself.
Did I tell you I've been busy?
And those are just the headlines of course, many other jobs have come and gone, much recycling has been done, training video's have been created, NAS systems recovered, it just goes on and on.
Roll on next year when I am completely retired and with any luck, later next year we can start our travelling adventures.
