Let me start by saying Dylan Dawes was found guilty, so why a suspended sentence? He was in possession of over 6,000 indecent images of children, he tried to put the blame on others, in my book that makes him a cowardly perverted twat. But what are the actual facts? Read on.

The BBC producer was Dylan Dawes, a former BBC Wales producer, who was convicted in April 2026 of six offences involving indecent images of children. He was later sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
What was proved
Police found more than 6,000 indecent images on four devices linked to him, including a hard drive, laptop, and two iPads. Court reporting said some of the images were in the most serious category, and prosecutors said the material had been downloaded over roughly 16 years.
His role at the BBC
Dawes had worked for the BBC since 2000 and was a producer for BBC Wales, including radio and podcast work. He was suspended after his arrest in 2022 and is no longer employed by the broadcaster.
Court outcome
At Cardiff Crown Court he was found guilty of three counts of possessing indecent images and three counts of making indecent images. At Newport Crown Court he received the suspended sentence and was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Other reported details
Reports said he denied having a sexual interest in children and suggested someone else may have used the devices, but the court rejected that account. Some reporting also noted searches such as “jailbait” and that images were stored under a folder named “Dylan Account.”news
Why a suspended sentence?
The reports do not give a detailed legal explanation for why the judge chose to suspend the sentence, beyond the fact that he received 18 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years, plus a 30-day rehabilitation requirement and sex-offender registration.
What the reports do show is that the judge had discretion to impose a suspended sentence, and the coverage suggests the court took account of the sentence structure rather than immediate custody.
The reporting also notes that he was convicted of serious offences involving more than 6,000 indecent images, so the suspended sentence was controversial and widely reported as him “avoiding jail.”nation+2
What the judge said
The judge said Dawes had tried to blame “anyone and everyone” who had access to the former BBC offices in Llandaff, but that “none of those many hundreds of people were to blame” and “You, and you alone, were to blame.”
He was also reported as saying the ball was now in Dawes’s court to stay out of trouble, and that he was confident Dawes would do so.
Other reported remarks
Coverage says Judge Egan rejected Dawes’s attempt to distance himself from the material, and described the offending in strongly critical terms, including references to the market for this kind of “depraved material.”
Who am I to challenge the judge?
After I left the RAF in 1994 I worked in Leicester for a charity helping ex-offender to find work. I was a challenging job, but the charity had an amazing success rate and the staff were incredible.
The work had me doing work inside prisons and also in government schemes within Leicester. The charity was incredibly successful at helping people find worthwhile and fulfilling jobs. But we would have regular meetings about clients, we worked alongside the Probation Service and Job Centres.
Dawes had over 6000 images including images were in the most serious category. That means the images included children having sex with adults or being penetrated. That is not only illegal, but it is disgusting, sick and people like Dawes have no right to be out in public.
Sex Offenders
My experience in dealing with sex offenders includes assessing some of the nastiest people like a serial rapist who even when he was awaiting release in a half way house, still denied the offences he was found guilty of with DNA evidence.
People like that will always re-offend, and sure enough, within 2 weeks of my speaking to this rapist he re-offended and was arrested and eventually given a long sentance.
Dawes will re-offend, I can guarantee it, he denies the images were his, was given a suspended sentence and is in the public domain. If he doesn't get his "fix" of pornographic child images, then he will escalate his behavious.
The judge made a massive mistake in my book. Dawes should have been sent to prison for a minimum of 5 years, but no, the pervert is out there now. Rediculous.
