Trump and the BBC

The current issue between the BBC and former President Donald Trump centres on a BBC Panorama documentary that allegedly edited and misrepresented parts of Trump's speech related to the January 6 Capitol attack, leading Trump to threaten a $1 billion lawsuit against the BBC for defamation and damages.

Background of the Dispute

  • Trump claims the BBC selectively edited his 2021 speech to make it look as though he encouraged supporters to march on the Capitol and engage in violence.
  • An internal BBC review acknowledged the editing error, and the BBC chairman apologized for an “error of judgment”.
  • Trump’s legal team sent a demand for the BBC to retract the documentary, issue a public apology, and pay compensation; if unmet, Trump said he would pursue legal action for up to $1 billion.

My Opinion and why Trump needs to back off and do something important for the USA rather than trying to make money for himself.

First of all FCUK Trump, the press and documentary programs can produce whatever they want, most legal organisations agree if this went to court that you would lose.

Second, editing speeches is done all the time, on the news, in media in general, the only reason you object is because it paints you in a bad light. Boo Hoo. In all of the speeches you have made since you became president you have lied over and over again, you have given numbers about the subject you are speaking on and I am pretty sure that every time you did that the numbers were wrong.

The Riots, Trump and the BBC

Donald Trump expects the BBC to issue a "full and fair retraction" of a Panorama documentary, to apologise immediately, and to take steps to restore public trust after allegedly misrepresenting his speech ahead of the January 6 Capitol riots.

There is considerable evidence and ongoing debate about whether Donald Trump's speeches around the time of the January 6th Capitol riots encouraged the rioters. In his address at the Ellipse on January 6, Trump repeated false claims of election fraud and urged supporters to "fight like hell" or they "wouldn't have a country anymore," which was cited in the article of impeachment as allegedly inciting violence. However, Trump's defence has argued that his use of "fight" was figurative and commonly used in political speech.constitutionalcommentary.lib.umn+2

So, Congress is still looking at this and most people agree that the inflammatory language used by Trump was a big factor in these riots.

As a result, the BBC shouldn't pay Trump anything and in my opinion as far as an apology goes he should be told to go swing. There is far too much evidence that Trump wanted something like that to happen.

After the riot, Trump deleted or softened lines in his prepared speeches that would have forcefully condemned the rioters or promised prosecution, which has been interpreted as reluctance to detach himself from those committing violence in his name.pbs+1

So, he really doesn't have a legal leg to stand on, as for damaging his reputation.... What reputation? A criminal, likely a rapist, definitely a multi-time bankrupt who incites hatred rather than creating policies that work for the electorate. This supposed incredible business man and deal maker is nothing of the sort.

Trumps the Deal Maker

Donald Trump repeatedly claimed during his campaign that he would be able to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict "in 24 hours" upon taking office. He made this assertion in multiple public appearances, stating that he could quickly broker an agreement between Russian and Ukrainian leaders—most notably suggesting this at the National Guard Conference and during subsequent interviews in 2024. After his November 2024 victory, Trump was asked about his timeline and responded that he would "try," indicating less certainty but reiterating his intention to pursue swift negotiations.apnews+1

The 20-point plan for Israel and Gaza was principally drawn up by US President Donald Trump and his advisory team, with input from international negotiators, allied governments, and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who was appointed to a new "Board of Peace" overseeing the plan's implementation. Trump officially announced the plan at a White House press conference on September 29, 2025, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan incorporates concepts from previous US peace proposals and includes consultation with mediators from Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and other stakeholders.bbc+4

In summary, Trump and his diplomatic team, with contributions from Tony Blair and various international partners, drafted the 20-point plan for Israel and Gaza.bbc+3

Again, lets get this straight, Trump did not create the 20 point plan on his own, he probably sat there spouting rubbish while the real politicians worked it all out. He certainly was not the sole architect of the plan, but because it worked he took credit as usual.

Examples of Trump the Business man who can't do maths

Trumps Bachelor of Science in economics in 1968 was achieved with a GPA around 2.0 which is a passing average meaning he was mediocre at best. So what are the examples of his stupidity when talking about business mathematics?

Trump claims to be "a great business man", "nobody is better at business than me" but he gets numbers wrong all the time, especially when speaking about percentages:

Trump claimed that Biden was proposing a tax increase of roughly 300 percent over the next decade, which was factually incorrect. The actual proposed tax increase was about 7 percent, not 300 percent as Trump asserted.

On April 20, 2020, the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil did plunge below zero for the first time in history, settling at minus $37.63 per barrel, meaning sellers actually paid buyers to take delivery of oil, due to storage shortages. While the factual event did occur, Trump's repeated references and percentage phrasing (e.g., “100 percent decrease” or “below zero”) in other speeches gave the impression that negative pricing was widespread and permanent, which was not accurate — it was a one-day anomaly tied to very specific market circumstances. wikipedia

Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed percentage decreases much greater than 100% in contexts like prescription drug prices, which if accurate, would mean the public was being paid to buy the goods. For example, in 2025, Trump claimed: “You know, we've slashed prices by 1,000%, 300%, even 1,500%” regarding drug prices. A price decrease of over 100% mathematically means the price drops below zero, so consumers would be paid to take the drugs rather than pay for them, which is impossible in normal market conditions. Multiple fact-checkers pointed out the absurdity: experts stated there was no real evidence drug prices had dropped more than 100%, let alone up to 1,500% as Trump claimed.apnews+1

Here is a typical example from Trump’s speeches:

  • “We’re gonna get the drug prices down. Not 30% or 40% ... we’re gonna get them down 1,000%, 600%, 500%, 1,500%.”wikipedia

These claims are physically and economically impossible, as such percentage decreases would result in sellers paying buyers to accept products.

Conclusion

Trump is an idiot! Come on Donald, come and get me, face to face you idiot. I can talk you into a corner any day. All I would have to do is question any numbers that you quoted and get you to prove they were correct, I'd be surprised if you can get your own phone number right. Moron.
