Why Israel’s current offensive is doomed to fail              After the War in Ukraine...              Overpaid Councillors Denbighshire and Conwy              Too little too late – The real Cybersecurity Story
26 July 2025

A busy end to the week. Lot's to do for the weekend that is here already. Tomorrow we are hoping for the weather to be reasonable for the Abergele Fun Day.

The last attempt was rained off, and the weather forcast for tomorrow says there is a 25% chance of rain, but we should be fine. The concern isn't for rain during the event, but for rain that might make the grass too wet for vehicles to drive on so that the stalls can be set up.

Yesterday I was trying to get the paperwork together including our insurance policy (I'm not printing 26 pages of notes, it's on my phone) and the Risk Assessment just 3 pages that I have printed.

HMRC & Companies House

Trying to finish the accountancy side of things to close my business yesterday has left me with a couple of things to do today, but there is nothing I can do with HMRC until the end of August at the earliest and with Companies House I will probably have to wait until October! Bloody beurocracy.

Here I am, not trading, trying to close my business, but no, you can't submit your accounts or close your business yet, it's not the right time. For who? I'm done, I am tired, worn out exhausted, and just want to put all of this behind me.

Don't get me wrong, I have had a lot of fun along the way. Like me and Mike (RIP) with Tom working at what was to become a dental surgery, Tom sticking his foot through the ceiling right next to the plasterer even after Mike had warned him to look where he put his feet.

Working on some great projects along the way, from installations to websites, to cybersecurity projects, the last one being Cyber Essentials Plus for a robotics company that are experts with SCADA devices, getting my Masters Degree in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. All amazing little day to day highlights that I look back on with a smile.

But then there are the long hours; performing data recovery jobs like at a local town council where I spent all weekend (day and night) recovering a crashed and damaged RAID system. On the Monday morning the staff came in with no idea anything had happened. The typically 18 to 20 hour days that come with running a business when you need to get several jobs done to clear the decks for a bigger job. I won't miss any of that.

Today, I saw a Billy Connolly sketch that went like this:

Billy is where I'm at right now, don't get me wrong, I want to live a healthy and happy whatever's left in my life. I want to help other people, travel, learn about other cultures, visit otehr countries and spent that time enjoying life with my wife Ange and our pets.

This diary and place of grumpy old guy thoughts and rants is where I will put down my thoughts. These are the thoughts of a damaged human with physical and pschological challenges, I have been broken and yet I have built myself back to being a grumpy old guy with a military sense of humour.

I hope you will join me.
